We're the Only Air Freshener at Target With This Certification
Walk down any home goods aisle and you'll find sprays, plug-ins, and diffusers that have not been independently tested.
Walk down any home goods aisle and you'll find sprays, plug-ins, and diffusers that have not been independently tested. None of them are required to disclose every ingredient, which is why you typically can't find what actually makes up their fragrance. The label just says "Fragrance" instead of breaking it down. Nothing requires any of these products to go beyond what federal regulation technically permits.
Realm was created to offer a different answer. A luxury fragrance you'd want in your home, with the peace of mind that what you're inhaling every day is safe for you, your pets, and your family. But we know trust is earned. You can't just take it from us, we needed to invest in independent testing.
That's why we are Clean Label Project® Certified, and the only air freshener at Target carrying that seal.
What Clean Label Project Tests
Clean Label Project® is a non-profit focused on transparency and product safety. Their mission is to uncover what is not on the label.
They test for hidden contaminants in both the product and the packaging. Substances that often slip past federal regulation because they are not required to be disclosed. Heavy metals. Plasticizers. Pesticide residues. Chemicals that can migrate from a bottle into the formula inside it.
The standards Clean Label Project® applies are often stricter than what U.S. or EU regulation requires. Their work has become the trusted baseline for clean brands across nutrition, beauty, and personal care.
How the Certification Works
Clean Label Project® does not take a brand's word for it. Products are sampled off the shelf, the same way a customer would. Not submitted by the brand. Then samples are sent to ISO-accredited third-party labs and tested for:
- Heavy metals (arsenic, lead, mercury, cadmium)
- Phthalates and plasticizers
- Bisphenols (BPA, BPS)
- Pesticide residues, including glyphosate
- Acrylamide
- Chemical migration from packaging materials
To pass, products must meet thresholds set by Prop 65, EU regulations, and Clean Label Project's own proprietary standards. Certification is not one-and-done. Products are periodically re-tested to maintain it.
What This Means for Realm
Realm products contain no phthalates, heavy metals, pesticides, bisphenols, plasticizers, or other harmful chemicals. Not because we say so. Because we are third-party tested and verified.
The Clean Label Project® seal on our packaging is not a marketing line. It is the result of lab-tested scrutiny. The same scrutiny applied to baby food, beauty, and nutrition products that consumers expect transparency from. We hold our air freshener to that same standard.
Why It Matters at Target
In 2026, Target announced a partnership with Clean Label Project®. Customers can now filter for Clean Label Project Certified products on Target.com, and in-store signage identifies certified products on the shelf across categories like personal care, household, and beauty.
Within Target's air freshener aisle, Realm is the only product carrying the Clean Label Project® Certified mark. When you spray Realm, you are choosing the only air freshener at Target that was expertly formulated to smell incredible. Achieved with 100% ingredient transparency and independent safety auditing.
The Standard We Hold
This is what we mean by radical fragrance transparency. Every ingredient is disclosed. Every formula is independently tested. The air freshener category has spent decades on the same playbook: overpowering scents, vague claims, hidden ingredients, and less than appealing packaging.
We do not think you should have to choose between scent and safety. Clean Label Project® certification is one of the ways we prove it.
